How to Paint a Bathtub – Steps
Following are several simple steps of how to paint a bathtub that you can yourself to save more your budget for a new bathtub.
Clean the bathtub
- Like any job that you will do on a bathtub, you need to clean the bathtub first using a chemical cleaner to clean the entire surface. You can use alcohol or acetone or any other chemical cleaner that come with an alcohol base. Rub the other surface and rinse it away. Let it dry for a moment.
Paint an old bathtub
- To make the paint adhere better, you need to sand down the entire surface. A palm sander will be the best for this job for the optimum result. Before you start to sand the bathtub, make sure that you turn it on first. Just do a back and forth moves to overlap your strokes. If you are done you can lift the sander away from the bathtub first and before you turn it off.
- Before you move further, you need to cover any surface that will not be painted using a tape. It can be the faucet, hot and cold water knobs and the floor around.
Epoxy paint
- You need to keep this in mind. It is important to apply a bonding agent to the tub if you have your tub is porcelain or tile bathtub. You need to do this on your bathtub will help the paint adhere to the surface. It will be quite easy to apply since you can use paper towel spray towel.
- You can paint with epoxy paint using the spray gun with left to right sweeping movement to have the best result. Make sure you have two to three coats on it.
- The last thing on this step is to finish it with again two or three coats, but this time with an acrylic top coat.
