African violets, or saintpaulia, are ideal plants to brighten your indoor spaces. Varieties that bear flowers would be easily found in a wide range of color choices – the ruffled or smooth petals may even be two-toned. However, botrytis cinerea, which is also called botrytis blight, is a common problem indoor many gardeners face with African violets.

Symptoms of botrytis blight begin with small watery lesions on the underside of the leaves, which may turn wilt and brown. In advanced cases, a fuzzy, gray appears on affected areas. If this happens, you must take steps about botrytis treatment and eliminate the problem before it spreads.

The affected leaves and stems should be removed, as well as any bits of them on the soil surface around the plant; this is the first step about botrytis treatment on your African violets.  Dead foliage harbors spores of the botrytis cinerea fungus. As the plant grows, the lower leaves that come into contact with the soil surface should be carefully removed. An African violet-specific fungicide must be applied according to package instructions to treat severe problems.

The next step is the room humidity that should be lower-turned. While African violets need humidity to keep from dehydrating, too much moisture encourages the growth of botrytis cinerea. For an air temperature, you should set at about 70 degrees, and at about 45 percent humidity for a home humidifier.
